BIOGRAPHy

Originally from Brazil, Edyelwys Silva is a freelance flutist performance artist in the greater Montreal area, Canada. He actively subs with numerous orchestras and professional chamber music ensembles throughout Brazil and Canada.

Education

Mr. Silva obtained his BA in Flute Performance from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Natal, Brazil in 2013. From 2014 to 2016, he was the acting substitute flute professor at the same university. He completed his M. M. in Flute Performance at the Université de Montréal, Canada in 2017, and received the Excellence Award from Denis Bluteau's flute studio. He continues to study with Denis Bluteau as a doctoral candidate in Music Interpretation [Doctorat en Interprétation, D. Mus.] at the same university. Edyelwys's main teachers are Denis Bluteau, Jocelyne Roy, and Margaret Keller. He also studied with Robert Langevin, Jennifer Gunn, Alberto Almarzo, Jean-Noël Saghaard, Janet Arms, Sérgio Barrenechea, Louise Pellerin, Alexandre Johnson, Louise Pellerin, Curt Schroeter, and Toninho Carrasqueira.

Experience

TEACHING. Mr. Silva is a passionate flute educator with more than 10 years of teaching experience. He was a professor in the PRONATEC program [National Program for Access to Technical Education and Employment] offered by the Brazilian Federal Government, as well as substitute flute professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte [UFRN], Brazil. In 2017, he was the Artistic director as well as flute and chamber music professor in the First International Flute Conference in Cruzeta/RN Brazil. He has recently opened his private flute studio to new students.

MUSIC. Mr. Silva is an avid chamber musician. He has subbed with Pentaèdre wind quintet in a collaboration concert with Marseille wind quintet from France at Montreal Conservatory of Music.

Awards

Mr. Silva has attended prestigious music festivals including Music Festival of Santa Catarina [FEMUSC], Brazil; Music Festival Eleazar de Carvalho, Brazil; Music Week Festival [UFRN], Brazil; Campos do Jordão International Music Festival, Brazil; and Orford Academy, Canada. He has won important awards and scholarships such as First prize in the Young Soloist Competition at the Eleazar de Carvalho Festival, 2012 Brazil; First prize in the Young Soloist Competition with the UFRN Orchestra, 2012 Brazil. In 2013, he was awarded the Excellence Award during the Natal Music Week Festival. Edyelwys was awarded significant scholarships such as the “Christian Lardé and Marie-Claire Jamet, Université de Montréal” and “Bourse d’excellence” from the Université de Montréal during his master’s degree.
